How long does it take to get a county film permit?
All permit applications must be submitted at least three to four (3-4) business days prior to the first prep/shoot day. Please see our Permits Page for more information.
Are there any County permit fees?
The County of Hawai‘i charges no fees to process the permit. Please see our Permits Page for more information.
How much does it cost to film on county property?
There are no permit fees or site rental fees to film on property owned and operated by the County of Hawai‘i. Please see our Permits Page for more information.
Is a certificate of insurance required to film on Hawai‘i Island?
Insurance is required for both the County Parks Permits and the County Public Works Permits. Please see our Permits Page for more information.
How do i find out where the names and places are to film that are under the county?
Each location listed on the Hawai‘i Island Film Office website will list which kind of permit is needed including COUNTY, STATE, FEDERAL and PRIVATE.

Is there a map that shows where locations are located on the island?
The Locations Detail pages will display a map of the general area for each location as well as information on how far away a location is from airports, hotels and other resources.
How do I know if i am on private property or state or federal/State/County property?
Each location listed on the Hawai‘i Island Film Office website will list which kind of permit is needed including COUNTY, STATE, FEDERAL and PRIVATE.

A permit may not be needed. Please contact the Film Office before completing the Public Works permit application. For more permitting information and to fill out County Permits online, please see our Permits Page.
