The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism’s Creative Industries Division selected seven fellows from Creative Lab Hawaii to participate in the 2019 American Film Market.
Fellows from Creative Lab Hawaii’s immersive producing and screenwriting programs will use the event as an opportunity to network with industry members, pitch their film ideas, and learn more about the business. This year’s event will be in Santa Monica, California from Thursday through November 13.
The event could potentially connect fellows with high-profile industry representatives as there were more than $1 billion in deals that closed at last year’s event alone, according to DBEDT officials.
Fellows attending the 2019 market include Amy Bircher of Kona, Zoe Eisenberg of Hilo, Jennifer and Serge Marcil of Lihue, Alex Spell of Hilo, Brayden Yoder of Oahu, and Orit Tashman of Hilo. Participants were chosen by CLH Immersive Program mentors as exemplary fellows.
“These selected participants have put in the hard work on their projects and developed the business acumen through mentorship to confidently pitch to industry insiders in the entertainment industry,” said Georja Skinner, chief officer of DBEDT’s Creative Industries Division and founder of CLH, in a statement. “It’s exciting to see what the opportunities at an event of this caliber can offer talent with the right skill set in place, enabling more of our local talent to bring their product to a global market.”
